During the videotape format war in the 1970s and 1980s, Betamax was a direct competitor of VHS tapes. Over time, other Beta tapes were developed, including the higher quality Betacam SP.

No. A standard VCR is designed to play VHS tapes. To view Betamax tapes on anything other than a Betamax player, you will need to transfer them into VHS, DVD, USB flash drive, or digital copies.
