Video8, Digital8 or Hi8? How to Tell
Video8 (1985), Hi8 (1989) and Digital8 (1999) all use the same small 8mm video cassette (3.74" × 2.46" × 0.59"), found in millions of Sony Handycam camcorders through the 90s and early 2000s. Video8 is the original analog format with about 240 lines of resolution, Hi8 is the sharper analog upgrade with about 400 lines, and Digital8 records digital video on the same tape.
